Advantages of Five-Axis Machining
In five-axis machining, the use of a thick-bottomed cutting tool to maintain a vertical position on complex mold surfaces greatly aids in reducing processing time. Based on the principles of the five-axis machining center, it is also suitable for side milling of surfaces with angles, eliminating the rib-like texture caused by ball-end milling cutters, resulting in more ideal mold surface quality. It also reduces the amount of manual milling and handwork required to clean up the mold surface, significantly lowering costs.
With five-axis machining technology, the problem of requiring multiple adjustments and clamping setups for repositioning workpieces at complex angles is resolved. This not only reduces time but also significantly decreases the deviations that may arise. The substantial cost of fixtures required for installing workpieces is also saved, and the CNC machine ensures the processing of complex parts! For example, drilling, finishing, and concave pocketing required for complex surfaces are areas that traditional machining methods cannot achieve.
The cutting tools used in five-axis machining are relatively short, and the entire part can be machined in one go without the need for re-clamping or using long cutting tools as required in similar three-axis machining processes. This allows for the production of molds in a shorter period of time, with good surface quality of the parts.
