Many friends are confused about whether a 3+2-axis machine is a 5-axis machining center and how to choose based on their processing requirements. To address this issue, we first need to understand the structure of a machining center.

A machine equipped with 3+2-axis technology is not a true 5-axis machining center.

Many people believe that a 5-axis machining center is based on a 3-axis machining center with the addition of two rotary axes. The two rotary axes first fix the tool in a tilted position, and then the tool axes X, Y, and Z stop for processing. Because the fourth and fifth axes are used to unequivocally determine the orientation of the cutting tool in a fixed position, rather than operating intermittently during the processing process. Therefore, this is not true 5-axis simultaneous control technology. A 3+2-axis machining center can perform operations that a general machining center cannot, but it is not a true 5-axis machining center.

Although a 5-axis machining center has the advantage of high precision and efficiency, it can be more challenging when processing complex, multi-faceted workpieces. This is because the length of the cutting tool is too long, requiring frequent process steps and clamping operations. In addition, constant tool setting can lead to accumulated dimensional tolerances, and small cuts can also cause the workpiece to fail. Therefore, multi-axis simultaneous control processing becomes the preferred choice when processing more complex workpieces.
